Our goal at northUpland is to spread the word about proper canine nutrition and fitness to gun dog owners across the globe. When we say "gun dog" we mean all species who hunt game brought down by the gun.
Whether it is a Labrador retrieving mallards on the Delta, a Coonhound doing his thing in the Tennessee woods, a Pointer nailing a covey of Texas quail, a Brittany nosing Hell's Canyon chukar, or a Shorthair patroling the Dakota uplands for ringnecks... these, as well as many other fine breeds, are the last bastion of working dogs in America. It is up to us as owners to feed them the best and train them completely so their lineage may continue.
My name is Mark Northup and I am a certified canine nutritionist and operate northUpland, Nutrition & Fitness Consultants, LLC. I write each and every article on this blog personally. I back everything I say with sound research and first hand knowledge. When I am not writing, I can be found snooping around the uplands of my adopted home state of Wisconsin or throughout our countries other great bird hunting haunts.

Being around dogs is my life and has been since my youth. Making them the best they can be through proper nutrition and fitness is my passion. My childhood hero's where Bob Wehle and George Bird Evans. I grew up studying their books and to this day keep them close at hand for quick reference and continued inspiration. I have Mr. Wehle and Mr. Evans to thank as well as my own parents and entire family who are all lifelong "dog people." I should also thank Wilson Rawls, the author of Where the Red Fern Grows. I read his book for the first time in sixth grade. It has left a lasting impression on me ever since. To me there is something very magical about the relationship between a boy and his dog...and as I grow older maybe a man and his dog as well!
